Abstract
To prevent the punching failure of a column flange in beam-to-column end-plate connections, the column flange is required to be thickened within the scope of the end-plate traditionally. This paper presents a new connection that the column flange is reinforced by adhering a plate, and carries out a detailed analysis by the finite element software ABAQUS. The analysis shows that, this connection can achieve the same effect as the usual welding connection within the characteristic value of coded ultimate bearing capacity, and can avoid shortcomings of the usual welding connection such as construction inconvenience and stress concentration. Finally, a formula is given for calculating the ultimate load of adhesive layers, in addition, a construction requirement is suggested.
