Abstract
To investigate the strength theory of masonry structure under biaxial tensile-compressive stress, several kinds of biaxial mechanics performance tests were carried out with consideration of different mortar joint angles and the corresponding relationships between principal stresses and plane stresses of perforated brick masonry. The damage characteristics of masonry structure under biaxial tension-compression are revealed, and the corresponding strength curves have been obtained to establish the plane stress failure criterion. The experimental results verify the anisotropic properties of masonry structure, and the experimental methods could be applied in other tensile strength tests of masonry structure. The tests data and the research results provide reference to improve the strength theory and failure criterion of masonry structure.
