BEARING CAPACITY OF CONCRETE-FILLED RECTANGULAR STEEL TUBE COLUMN-BEAM JOINTS CONFINED BY STEEL MESHES IN JOINT ZONE

  • To investigate the compression bearing capacity of concrete filled rectangular steel tubular column-beam joints confined by multi-layer steel meshes in the joint zone, eight specimens designed to adhere to the "weak connection" scenario were tested. The failure modes, bearing capacity, and characteristics of steel strain in the joint were studied. The results indicate that the specimens under axial and eccentric compression had different failure modes. With increasing eccentricity or height of the joint, the bearing capacity of the specimen decreased. However, the influence of joint width on bearing capacity was minimal. Based on the formula from GB50010-2010, a formula for calculating the compression bearing capacity is put forward in which a joint height coefficient is introduced. The comparison between the results of the calculation and experiments shows that they are consistent with each other.
