Abstract
The Failure of large civil structures can be attributed mostly to the trans-scale damage evolution from local defects to a global structure. Therefore, the damage analysis in single scale is no longer applicable for the accurate description of an interaction between the local nonlinear damage evolution and structural deterioration. A concurrent multiscale model is built on the basis of different features of structural damage in macro- and mesoscales. Trans-scale connection is achieved through a multi-point-constraint method. Subsequently, a concurrent multiscale calculation is simultaneously executed for both the linear response of a global structure and the nonlinear plastic damage evolution at local details. The results show that the proposed concurrent multiscale method not only account for reasonable damage descriptions on different scales, but also can be potentially applied to investigate the influence of local nonlinear evolution on global structural failure.
