Abstract
Using a CFD code based on the finite volume method, the present study carried out a numerical simulation of air flow around ICE2 high-speed trains under crosswind. The SIMPLE algorithm was used to solve N-S equations of three dimensional, steady state and incompressible flow of air whose physical properties are assumed to be constant. Two types of mesh, structured blocking hexahedron mesh and unstructured tetra mesh, were generated using ICEM CFD software. Comparison study of present work with classical experimental tests performed by other researchers shows that both the results of two types of mesh agree well with experimental data, and the method of solution with a QSKE turbulence model and MARS scheme is reliable. Thereafter, the grid independence research was performed, from which the mesh with both the proper number of cell and the height of the first layer were gained. The conclusion of present study could be used in further numerical simulation of a high-speed train with rather complicated geometry.
